Homecoming 2020: Registration Opens July 1!

What you need to know about this year’s celebration!

Is Norwich planning to host Homecoming 2020?
Yes! We look forward to welcoming you to the Hill October 1-4. The alumni office team is making plans for a weekend that celebrates Norwich traditions, provides opportunities to reconnect with classmates and friends, honors class years ending in 5 and 0, welcomes the Class of 1970 to the Old Guard, and introduces the 24th president of Norwich University, Col. Mark Anarumo, USAF (Ret.)!

Will the coronavirus (COVID-19) impact this year’s Homecoming 2020?
Maybe. Though our current plans are to host a traditional on-campus homecoming weekend—implementing the CDC’s guidelines for physical distancing and frequent cleaning and sanitation of all facilities—COVID-19 may impact our programming in other ways. We continually monitor the State of Vermont’s executive orders regarding public gatherings and travel while preparing alternative homecoming scenarios, if needed. Information on the State of Vermont’s response to COVID-19 and phased re-opening can be found here: https://governor.vermont.gov/covid19response. Information on travel and lodging in Vermont can be found here: www.vermontvacation.com/travel-restrictions.

What scenarios is Norwich planning for?
While we wait for clarity from the State of Vermont on COVID-19 guidelines for events this fall, the alumni office team is making plans for four possible scenarios:

1. Homecoming will take place on campus as usual; all alumni and guests are welcome to attend events while following social distancing guidelines.
2. Homecoming will take place on campus with restricted attendance. For example, attendance might be limited to reunion classes (class years ending in 0 and 5) and Old Guard.
3. Homecoming will be a combination of on campus and virtual events. For example, on campus attendance might be limited to the 25th and 50th reunion classes (1995 and 1970) and Old Guard; all other class reunions will take place virtually.
4. All Homecoming events will occur virtually.

How will Norwich determine the way forward?
The State of Vermont has not yet authorized the reopening of Vermont colleges and universities. President Schneider is serving on the Governor’s Task Force for Restarting Vermont’s Universities and College Campuses, which will provide recommendations for the way forward. Norwich has established a university-wide COVID-19 Task Force charged with planning for various scenarios for the fall 2020 semester that may result from the State’s orders. As Norwich looks to the reopening of campus, Homecoming and other events this fall, our mission is to do so in full compliance of CDC and Vermont Department of Health guidelines and in the safest and most thoughtful way possible.

When will Homecoming registration open?
Online registration for Homecoming 2020 events will open July 1.

Will Norwich refund registration fees if events are canceled or alumni and their guests can’t attend?
Yes. Registration fees for canceled events will be refunded in full. If your plans change and you are unable to attend any event you registered for, full refunds will be issued if you cancel at least seven days prior to homecoming (by September 30) by contacting the Alumni Office at alumni@norwich.edu or (802) 485-2100.

When will Norwich announce final plans for Homecoming?
We will be posting updates on this website as they evolve and sending bi-weekly email to the Norwich community. The final determination for this year’s event will be announced no later than August 28, 2020.
