Norwich Day at the Vermont State House

State House Event

Join us in the Capital City for a celebration of Norwich University's bicentennial year! Mark your calendar and plan to join Norwich officials, alumni, students and friends for a full-day of festivities celebrating this historic milestone! 

At the State House

8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. Governor Scott’s Open Door Coffee Hour where information about Norwich Day at the State House will be available.

8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Norwich University’s Sullivan Museum and History Center traveling exhibit on display. The Sullivan Museum and History Center staff will be on hand as well as Norwich students in reproduction uniforms representing the past 200 years. Cedar Creek Room 

10:00 a.m.  – 11:00 a.m. State House Curator David Schütz will lead a tour of the Vermont                                           State House highlighting Norwich University-related art and artifacts on display. First Floor Lobby 

11:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. Vermont historian Howard Coffin will narrate the Battle of Cedar Creek and the contributions of Norwich alumni to the Vermont Brigade. Cedar Creek Room 

12:30 p.m. Signing and reading of State of Vermont Proclamation by Governor Phil Scott. Cedar Creek Room 

1:00 p.m. Devotional by NU Chaplain, Rev. William Wick with Norwich students. House Chamber 

1:15 p.m. Reading of State of Vermont joint House and Senate resolutions marking Norwich University’s 200th anniversary. House Chamber 

2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. State House Curator David Schütz will lead a tour of the Vermont State House highlighting Norwich University-related art and artifacts on display. First Floor Lobby 

3:00 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. Vermont historian Howard Coffin will narrate the Battle of Cedar Creek and the contributions of Norwich alumni to the Vermont Brigade. Cedar Creek Room 

3:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. Norwich Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey teams scrimmage on the State House Ice Rink.  Photo opportunity with student-athletes and the NCAA Women’s Ice Hockey Championship Cup.  Enter to win Norwich Hockey play-off tickets! 

4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Alex Kershaw, New York Times best-selling writer and author of Citizens & Soldiers: The First 200 Years of Norwich University will give a presentation on Vermonters that attended Norwich and their significance and contributions to national and world history. Presentation will be followed by a Q&A and book signing. Room 11 

5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Reception for state officials and Vermont legislators with Norwich leadership, students and alumni. Room 10

7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Farmer’s Night Concert featuring Norwich’s Regimental Band, the nation’s oldest collegiate band. House Chamber

In Downtown Montpelier

3:00 – 4:30 p.m. Capitol Grounds Cafe will offer coupons for free hot chocolate to the first 100 people at the Norwich University Men’s & Women’s Ice Hockey Team Scrimmage. State House Lawn Ice Rink

5:00 – 7:00 p.m. For every 14th Star Brewing Company beer sold, Three Penny Taproom will donate $1 to a local nonprofit. 108 Main Street

February 11-19 “Where’s Captain Alden Partridge” Scavenger Hunt
All ages are invited to explore downtown businesses to find Norwich University’s founder, Captain Alden Partridge. When you spot him at any of the participating businesses, take a photo and post it on the Norwich University Facebook page or Twitter account with the hash tag #NU200. We will randomly select a daily winner for fun-tastic Norwich prizes and notify winners via social media. There’s no charge to participate and all are welcome in the hunt to find our fearless leader!
