Your Norwich Family Is Looking Out For You

facebook mosaic - WickGritNorwich students completed the spring semester from home, faculty and staff are working remotely and everyone is advised to ‘stay home, stay safe.’ Even though most spring activities have been canceled or postponed, the Norwich family is far from dormant. Many are working on the frontlines in health care, law enforcement and disaster relief. Some are sewing face masks for local hospitals while others are volunteering to stock food pantries.

The leadership and selfless service of Norwich students, alumni, faculty and staff in these challenging times proves that the essence of our university isn’t the physical space. It’s the people.

While it may be a few months before we can gather at NU Club events, golf outings and other social occasions, our alumni, students and parents remain at the core of all we do. Over the next several weeks on this page we will share information and a range of digital resources that we hope will inspire you and deepen your connection to Norwich and each other.

COVID-19: Share Your Experiences

Tell Us Your Story
Nurse - NUResLifeHeather Altman ’92
organized Goggles for Docs to donate ski goggles to frontline health care workers. Scott Lancaster ’99 is a paramedic for the Gorham, NH fire department. Rae Carlson ’82 delivers lunches to school children that might not have a meal at home. And COL Mike Shoen USA ’92 is coordinating DSCA support to FEMA.

These are among the dozens of ways the Norwich family are stepping up to help for their community and our nation. How are you helping others during the COVID-19 pandemic? How have you been affected?

The Norwich University Archives and Sullivan Museum and History Center are documenting the experiences of the Norwich family during the COVID-19 pandemic. We urge you to share stories, photos or videos that will become part of the historical record on the impact of the coronavirus in our lives. With your permission, we may share your experiences and reflections with the Norwich community in the weeks ahead.

Donate to the Schneider Legacy Project
Jaime & President Richard SchneiderNorwich students are hardworking. Their families are small business owners, teachers, first responders, nurses, contractors or serve in the military. With layoffs and business shutdowns, a high percentage of Norwich students and their families will face serious financial challenges in the months ahead. To help keep our students in school we will need to offer more scholarships this fall.

You can make the biggest impact on Norwich students by supporting the Schneider Legacy Project. Gifts to this fund will benefit the Jaime and Richard Schneider Scholarship and the Norwich Fund to increase the financial aid available in Fall 2020 and give Norwich the flexibility to address the immediate needs of our students over the coming months.

Alumni Call-a-Cadet Covid-19 ProgramYoung Alumni: Reach out to your Guardian Class!
If you love to talk about Norwich and would like to help our community during this time of a national health emergency, the Call-a-Cadet program is perfect for you!

Many older alumni are staying home to stay safe and we don’t want them to feel alone. Through this new program, we are seeking alumni volunteers who are willing to call five to ten alumni 50 years their senior (known as your Guardian Class). Share your Norwich stories, compare how school has changed over the years, ask which dorm they lived in, or just ask how they are doing. If you are interested, please email Leah Cifuentes '19.
