Annual Pilgrimage to the Alamo

Every year since 1925 the Alamo Mission Chapter of the Daughters for the Republic of Texas has staged the annual Pilgrimage to the Alamo. This is a memorial tribute to the Alamo Heroes and the heritage of Texas. A solemn wreath bearing procession departs from the Vietnam Memorial and walks silently to the Alamo. Simultaneously, the names of the Alamo defenders are intoned from inside the Alamo walls. Following the procession and placing of the wreaths on the Alamo greensward, a brief memorial service takes place. The Fiesta Military Coordinator delivers the address and the sounding of Taps ends the ceremony.

During the ceremony, it is our honor to remember one of Norwich's most distinguished alumni. Captain Albert Martin, a graduate of the American Literary, Scientific, and Military Academy, served valiantly at the Alamo and ultimately died in battle. To this day, he is remembered by the alumni of Norwich University as her first war hero.
